HAPPY FATHERS DAY PART TWO

upside down, boy you turn me...

Weirdly enough, without even speaking about it, Ramona and I both managed number one Fathers Day 'gifts' that were all about circles. Crazy no? However that most definately is where the similarities in both our gifts and partners end. While the Truckin Historian is the epitome of romantic gestures and would undoubtedly have been moved to tears by Ramona's stunningly beautiful, poetic portrait, the Hotrodding Architect hasn't got a romantic bone in his body, bless him. As with most Italian boys, the way to his heart is well and truly through his stomach, and there's been a request for a pineapple upside down cake hanging over my head for nearly six months...So what better way to celebrate his first big day as a Dad than with this freshly baked version straight out of the oven he installed himself... even better, Max, Muji and I get to share it with him. Yum. Happy Dads Day indeed!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

This pic of The Truckin Historian and Thom the Womble was printed on photo transfer, cut with a circle cutter, ironed onto calico, stretched onto stetcher bars, then chain stitched to frame it. It's very small only 20cm square. A nice momento for his first Fathers day.
Happy Fathers Day. Hope there is bbq weather where you are...

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

The ladies of HML are known to be lovers of internet shopping. We've wasted many an evening on some weird endless loop of blogs and shops from hither and yon. We thought it was time we gave a shout out to one of our favourite stores - Duckcloth. This Australian based online fabric shop has it all - from gorgeous Japanese linens to the latest in prints by Australian designers (like Saffron Craig - the lovely fabric for the laptop cover from hell - more on that later in the week!) Fabrics arrive in perfect condition and super speedy (Ramona requested express post and sure anough 24 hours later it was at the door).

Our next purchases are the Pippiejoe nests and the Thea and Sami Marguerite floral print. But we are happy to spend time drooling over the Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner and Nani Iro fabric and dreaming of our next projects.

FAKE OF THE WEEK

through the looking glass

I had a weird experience this week that I thought I'd share with hml readers. Firstly this is is where I work - half of hml comes out of this room ( Beck my hml other half down in clarke street, is in the throws of setting up her uber studio in the new digs). It was photographed this week for a magazine. Let me tellyou this is one of the weirdest and most invasive experiences I've endured.
Firstly - it never looks this nice and inviting. Usually the table also has nappies to be folded, tea cups to be washed and crumby toast plates. Secondly I don't normally have all my work up on the wall - its the dining room after all but I think it's meant to look like some swisho studio. In the professional shots I'm sitting in there like a pork chop. Thirdly I dont use brown paper to protect the table - I use a plastic drop cloth which is damn ugly let me tell you. I dont know how many people are going to see the article ultimately but I did want to share this peek into my weird world with you dear readers of hml..
back to our regular schedule...

SHOW OF THE WEEK

Love Your Work
There is nothing the ladies of HML like more than an all encompassing exhibition. There is something so inviting about a space that wants to swallow you up, or give you a bear hug. We'll be skating down do the opening of Caroline Loves new exhibition Dreamcase at C3 Gallery on Wednesday night because nothing sounds better than a whole room of pillowcases sewn into a tent like structures. Be warned, we may be napping - we'll take sleep where we can get it people.
