My friend K.C is a poet and playwright and is having a birthday next week. I only see him once or twice a year but we've been friends for 2 decades (!) and I like to remember this annual event in a small way. He's a bit of a Luddite too (no mobile phone, still doing dial up) so he loves nothing more than snail mail. I made him a notebook to jot down his latest inspirations.

I'm amassing quite a collection of scrapbook papers which come in hand for projects like this. I'm also slightly addicted to the scrap booking decals you can get -just like the old fashion letraset! I had fun making his card and I think he'll like this retro gift in the mailbox.

I'll also write him a letter - on paper - with a pen! When was the last time you did that? RAMONA

The ladies of HML know some of you you here in Melbourne particularly may be weary of everyone banging on about street art, lane ways, graf, paste ups, banksy blah blah blah. You may have exited the gift shop a couple of years ago but we urge you to return to catch this beautiful new show Oh its an eerie frost now on in Hosier Lanes Citylights boxes.

Swiss based artist Pascale Mira Tschani and Michael Husmann Tschani work backwards to create these extraordinary work backwards to create these extraordinary works that are as much a mystery to them as they are to us. they slowly build up layers on perspex using all manner of media until their original drawing has disappeared. We can imagine the thrill of that final flip to reveal the work.

We love collaboration (obviously) and we love an exhibition you can catch on your way to somewhere else. A show for the time poor art lover! Works up and viewable 24/7 until the 27th April. RAMONA

The ladies of HML want to give a special shout out to Handmade Romance today. There are only a few days left of this amazing Window Exhibition at Craft Victoria and we can't recommend it highly enough.

We are both quite partial to the bearded lady and the strongman. You might be more drawn towards the gypsy fortune teller. Show looks amazing at night but make sure you come during the day too to head down the stairs to buy treasure!

You should also visit the Handmade Romance Etsy shop, because really these softie brooches are too cool for school. RAMONA

I think I knew when I made the first rabbit they'd start multiplying as rabbits have a tendency to do! I couldn't resist making a little blue one to celebrate the imminent arrival of our newest staff member, a new bro for Max and buddy for Thom. Of course even as a type this I realise that I should make ones for the two year old hml boys just so everyone has a rabbit. And then there's the intern.

I'll have to set up a rabbit Flickr of course, and a blog and a tumbr and a facebook page (or not)...hop to it! RAMONA

The ladies of HML are both ceramics collectors. There is something alluring about a craft we just cannot do. We dream sometimes of doing a short course and whipping up a dinner set one day but for the moment we'll make do with our Ikea china and our ever growing collections of objects that make us yell at our families (careful! don't touch that!)



Jane Walton


There is a long long history of words on ceramics (think hieroglyphics, ten commandments etc) and there is something to be said for the permanency of text on objects that makes it seem more significant somehow.

We are looking forward to seeing the words and objects of 8 ceramicists who open up their new show at Pan Gallery this week. Forming Words satisfies on many fronts - for us words nerds and ceramics collectors we are very concerned for the safety of our grocery money. RAMONA
