The ladies of HML are getting ready to be stall holders at next months Craft Hatch - but hey guess what? there is a Craft Hatch on tomorrow at the City Library and there are some amazing stall holders. Anna Ross - the genius behind the Kester Black label will be there (love these little carved animals)

And although most of us are over the whole laser cutting thing we really love the wearable timepieces from So Little Time Co.

It's my Saturday gallery day tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to my solo adventure. I'll be checking out some of the graduate shows. Craft Victoria has a fantastic list on their blog. 

Be aware today is the last day to see the RMIT Gold and Silver-smithing grad show at 1000 Pound Bend. You'll bump into me there as I have of course left it to the last minute! RAMONA

WEB FIND OF THE WEEK

Pretty soon you'll get some fantastic travelogue reportage from Beck who is currently in Tokyo - hopefully buying my Christmas present. Meanwhile I'm stuck back here in the log cabin, beavering away through my list and wasting time drinking tea and reading blogs. Stumbled on a great Tumblr that I knew you'd all appreciate!

These crazy knitted balaclavas are by Tracy Widdess. Totally inspired by horror and sci fi they are weirdly disturbing and beautfully tactile at the same time.

I know this kind of stuff has been around a while now, but it still totally floors me. RAMONA

ONLINE MAG OF THE WEEK

We are big fans of the online magazine format here at HML. There is something so nice about free content that looks good and nourishes everyones creativity. The webiste Creature Comforts is one of our daily reads and they have produced Gifted Magazine which has lots of great christmas ideas and inspiration. Can't see it on your iphones so make sure you jump on the computers to view.

for the boys

One thing about making Christmas presents is that we always get a bit stuck as to what to give the men in our lives. A screen printed shopping tote or a crocheted pot holder is just not going to cut it - no matter how metrosexual they are! I picked up some plain notebooks for $4 with a plan to do some print on them, something simple and graphic that wouldn't embarrass someone if they pulled it out on the tram or at a cafe and would only take me an hour or so to do.

Of course I ended up doing quite elaborate and individual little paintings on the back instead that took me three episodes of The West Wing. The two above are for a friend who loves dogs...

The two weird alien ones are for a friend who loves graphic novels, star wars and sci fi and is an accomplished artist (so I'm a bit nervous about them!)...

The black one is for my cousin who is a completely nocturnal creature.Now to wrap and tag and move onto the next projects. The great thing about hand making gifts, no matter how small they are, you can't help but think of the recipients as your making them, and I hope that is imbued in the objects too.
